Elizabeth Barbaree-Tasker

Elizabeth Barbaree Tasker is Main Street Birmingham’s executive director. She leads the organization in identifying new
urban renewal projects and executing projects currently underway. Elizabeth has 15 years experience in community redevelopment projects. A former consultant with the Auburn’s Urban Studio, Barbaree-Tasker has worked with private developers, city governments, planners and non-profits on redevelopment and community planning projects.

Favorite urban renewal project: Public markets. “They give everyone an opportunity to buy fresh produce and act as a catalyst for bringing the community together.”
Favorite local restaurant: Sol y Luna
Hometown: Pinckard, Alabama.  ”That same small-town community feeling is recreated in a variety of flavors throughout Birmingham’s neighborhoods.”

Local business owner you admire: Merrilee Challis of Bottletree. “She’s taken a quirky vision and made it a huge draw in Avondale.”
